A striking example of mid-Soviet agitprop, this large-format original poster was published in Moscow in 1974 by Издательство «Изобразительное Искусство» (Fine Art Publishing House). Designed by M. Lukyanov (М. Лукьянов), it channels the constructivist energy of early Soviet graphic design into a distinctly 1970s idiom: Lenin’s portrait superimposed on a sweeping crimson flag, framed by the geometric silhouette of an industrial crane — a symbol of collective labour and socialist progress.

The poster was produced to promote the Communist Subbotnik — the tradition of voluntary, unpaid community labour that dated back to Lenin’s own initiative in 1919. By 1974, the Subbotnik had become a fixture of Soviet civic life, and posters like this one were displayed in factories, offices, and public spaces across the Union to mobilise participation. The deep red and orange palette, bold typography, and heroic composition are quintessential of the era — a high-impact statement piece for industrial, brutalist, or modernist interiors.

Text on poster: ВСЕМ НА КОММУНИСТИЧЕСКИЙ СУББОТНИК! — “Everyone to the Communist Subbotnik!”
