A rare and visually commanding original from the late Soviet period, this 1976 poster was published in Kyiv by Politvydav Ukrainy — the Ukrainian SSR’s state political publishing house — and attributed to artist Mykola Motuzko. It belongs to an official series of ideological posters produced for mass display across the republic, many of which were ephemeral and rarely survive in presentable condition today.

At the composition’s centre, the vivid red Constitution of the USSR is presented almost ceremonially, held by stylised hands against a geometric world map — an unmistakable visual metaphor for global authority and the reach of Soviet law. The headline, in Ukrainian, reads «Найдемократичніша в світі»: The Most Democratic in the World.

What makes this piece particularly notable for collectors is its Ukrainian-language edition. While Russian-language Soviet propaganda posters circulated in enormous print runs, Ukrainian-language political posters from this period were produced for a specific republican audience and survive in far smaller numbers. This is a document of the Ukrainian SSR’s parallel ideological apparatus — and, given the current historical moment, an increasingly significant artefact of 20th-century Eastern European print culture.
