This is an original 1975 Ukrainian SSR propaganda poster, published in Kyiv by Politizdat Ukrainy. Designed by Igor Markovsky, it celebrates the unity of the Soviet republics through a bold, abstract geometric composition — the kind of piece that stops you not because it shouts, but because it draws you in.

At its centre sits the full USSR state emblem — the globe, hammer and sickle, rising sun, and wheat sheaves bound by ribbons bearing the motto of each republic — rendered in Markovsky’s distinctive Constructivist hand. From it, rays radiate outward in the patterns and colours of all 15 Soviet republic flags, filling the poster with a sense of ordered, almost ceremonial energy. The palette — terracotta reds, teals, and forest greens — is warm and sophisticated, a far cry from the rigid red-and-black of typical Soviet output.

Unlike most propaganda posters of the era, this one leans into a Modernist/Constructivist aesthetic rather than Socialist Realism. No heroic workers, no marching crowds — just sharp geometry and a sunburst design that feels as much mid-century graphic art as political statement. It bridges the gap between history and design in a way that works beautifully on a contemporary wall, particularly mounted with a wide white mat in a simple black frame.

Text on poster (translated from Ukrainian): “СОЮЗ НЕПОРУШНИЙ” — Unbreakable Union
